Hugh Freeze spotted at Memphis airport wearing Ole Miss backpack for a Texas-bound flight

Former Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze kept a relatively low profile in the weeks leading up to the NCAA decision dropped on the football program, leaving many to wonder when and where he’ll make his next career move.
A source who chose to remain anonymous snapped a photo of Freeze at the Memphis airport this morning before they both boarded the same flight to Texas.
OK, he could be going there for plenty of reasons, so let’s not speculate that it’s about a job (also there are a million schools in Texas, and our source didn’t give her destination so this is like TMZ-level gossip, y’all, and I probably need a shower after sharing it).
But the most interesting part of the photo, at least from our vantage point, is Freeze’s Ole Miss football backpack with his name embroidered on the back.
What.

Now we’re not saying Freeze should forget about his successful tenure with the Rebels, but to wear a backpack branded with the instantly identifiable Ole Miss script logo—ESPECIALLY A BACKPACK WITH YOUR INSTANTLY IDENTIFIABLE NAME ON IT—in a public airport is pretty ballsy.
Now back to the speculation: Though his resignation from Ole Miss was shocking in terms of small-town scandal, it was never considered career suicide for Freeze, especially when you consider how many coaches have been able to restore their careers not long after their personal lives brought them down (ahem, Bobby Petrino).
That, combined with the Committee on Infractions’ ruling that only doled out a two-game conference play suspension if he takes on a new head coaching gig, puts Freeze in a pretty good spot to land somewhere significant as a coordinator or assistant.
We’re not saying that’s what’s happening in Texas today. (But we’re not not saying that either.)
