Octavia Spencer and Mississippi filmmakers are renting out theaters to show ‘Black Panther’
Octavia Spencer made headlines this week when following up on her promise to rent out a Mississippi movie theater to offer free showings of “Black Panther,” and now two Mississippi filmmakers are following suit.
Inspired by Spencer, director Tate Taylor and producer John Norris — who are currently filming a feature movie in Natchez — are renting out a theater for a 12:30 p.m. Saturday showing of the movie.
“(This will) give tickets to kids who might not normally get tickets to this movie to see a hero — an African-American hero,” Norris said.
Norris said anyone interested in getting tickets should visit the mayor’s office at Natchez City Hall.
Spencer’s professional Mississippi ties started with her breakout role in “A Time To Kill” and later with her award-winning performance in “The Help.”
