The authors said all of the winner shared a few things in common: safe streets, a healthy economy, affordability and entertainment options. Not surprisingly most of the winners were also relatively close to more urban areas.

Longtime Madison Mayor, Mary Hawkins Butler, wrote on social media that credit should go to correct source. It wasn’t her she said, but a higher authority and the people of the city.

“Madison is the city that prayer is building,” she said. “To Him we are grateful.”

Butler said the city’s employees are also a huge part of what makes Madison special.

“(I’m) proud of all the people who have worked to make our city the best in Mississippi,” she said. “Most importantly I am thankful for those that pray every day for this wonderful place we call home.”
