JACKSON — A two-year-old child was found safe Saturday afternoon after being kidnapped by car thieves while the child was sitting in his parent’s unattended vehicle.

Jackson Police located the child at the scene of a house burglary in progress. Sgt. Roderick Holmes told WJTV in Jackson that two black men stole the car earlier in the day. The car was later located on Wingfield Drive in Jackson, Holmes said.

When officers arrived at the scene, Holmes said the two men were seen exiting house. The men began firing shots at the officers, who returned fire injuring one of the shooters, who was suspected of stealing the car with the baby inside.
