BROOKHAVEN — Mississippi prosecutors will present evidence against a man accused of shooting and killing two small-town police officers.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled Tuesday for Marquis Flowers. The 26-year-old Flowers is accused of shooting and killing two Brookhaven police officers in September — 35-year-old Patrolman James White and 31-year-old Cpl. Zach Moak.

Officials say Flowers shot the officers after they responded to a call reporting gunshots.

Flowers hasn’t been indicted, and Tuesday’s proceeding will be a preliminary hearing to determine whether there’s enough evidence to hold Flowers until a grand jury decides on indictment.

However, the hearing is unlikely to result in Flowers’ release because his parole on previous auto burglary convictions was revoked. He was sent to the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman after a two-week hospital stay.
