Sheriff investigates fake cop pulling over motorists
Simpson County Sheriff’s Office investigators are looking into reports that someone is impersonating a law enforcement officer and pulling over unsuspecting motorists, a Jackson TV station reported Monday.
WAPT reports the alleged fake law officer has used a flashing blue light on at least three motorists, two of whom stopped for the man. Impersonating a law enforcement officer is a crime.
Deputies described the suspect as a “husky white male” who uses an older model Ford Crown Victoria — the kind many law enforcement agencies use — with decals that make the car look official.
Simpson County Sheriff’s Office chief investigator Chris Wallace said motorists who are being pulled over in Simpson County should call the sheriff’s office at 601-847-2921 and dispatchers can confirm the stop is legitimate or not.
