Donations to children survivors of deadly car crash top $80,000

Generous donations from friends, family and complete strangers continue to pour in for the Mississippi family that was ripped in half in a tragic car accident on Jan. 3.

Shortly after a Delta State University professor, his wife and one of their four children were killed in a Texas highway accident, an online fundraising campaign was started to help pay for their funerals and support the three surviving children.

Wednesday morning that effort had topped $81,631 with a goal of $100,000.

DSU physics professor Adam Johanson, his wife Elizabeth and their 8-year-old daughter, Jane, were killed on Jan. 3, in Texas while traveling back to Mississippi after a visit to see family and friends in Las Vegas over the holidays.

The couple’s three surviving children, ages 12, 5 and 3, received minor injuries, but were treated and released shortly after the accident.
