Police say 22-year-old admitted to shooting pastor outside church
JACKSON — Police have arrested the man they believe shot and killed a pastor as he prepared to begin church services Sunday morning.
Jackson Police Chief James Davis told media outlets that Marquez Hamilton, 22, had confessed to the shooting that killed pastor Anthony Longino outside New Bethany Missionary Baptist Church. Davis said Hamilton said Longino was shot as he and three others planned to rob the 62-year-old pastor.
Longino’s family issued a statement to WLBT TV:
“The Longino family would like to give our sincere appreciation to Mayor Lumumba, JPD who has worked diligently to bring justice to our beloved family member & everyone who provided information by having the courage to break the code of silence. Thankful to everyone for their kind words & prayers during this extremely difficult time. He lived his best life & enjoyed serving the community of Jackson & walked in Faith!
