A regional airline will begin flying jets between a northeast Mississippi airport and Nashville, Tennessee.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports Contour Airlines announced on Thursday that jet service at Tupelo Regional Airport begins April 1.

Since it began flying to Tupelo in 2016, Contour has flown twin-engine turboprops holding 15 passengers. The jet model to be used — the Embraer ERJ135 — has 30 seats.

The airline will provide 18 weekly flights to and from Tupelo. Total weekly flights will decrease, but the number of seats will increase.

Airport and Contour officials say they hope jets will make service more appealing. Last year, Contour carried the most passengers out of Tupelo of any airline since 2009.

Among amenities on the new plane: A flight attendant and a lavatory.
