Vicksburg woman killed, another injured after vehicle crashed, burst into flames
A Vicksburg woman was killed injured Friday night when the car in which she was a passenger left the road, struck a tree and burst into flames. The driver of the car was seriously injured in the wreck.
The one-vehicle accident happened on Fisher Ferry Road Friday night just before midnight.
Vicksburg police Lt. Johnnie Edwards said Marniqua Shaylisa Stamps, 20, died Saturday at University of Mississippi Medical Center, where she and Christina Howard, 23, also of Vicksburg, were taken after the 11:59 p.m. wreck. Howard was in serious condition at UMMC.
Police reported that the 2007 Nissan Altima driven by Howard was southbound on Fisher Ferry when it went off the left side of the road, struck a tree and burst into flames. Both women were taken directly to UMMC.
Police told a Jackson TV station that the cause of the investigation was still being determined, but that an arrest may be made in the case.
