A Mississippi man was arrested Monday for allegedly shooting his wife in the face.

Vicksburg Police Chief Milton Moore told news outlets that police were called to Ethel Street at approximately 9:20 p.m. Monday night to a report of a shooting.

Moore said officers spoke with the victim who said her husband, Milton Ray Jefferson shot her in the face after she refused to stop and talk with him.

The victim was hospitalized and was listed in stable condition.

Jefferson, 61, turned himself in to authorities within an hour of the shooting, Moore said.

Jefferson has been charged with aggravated assault-domestic violence.

Milton was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday at the Vicksburg Municipal Court. He was being held Tuesday pending his initial court appearance.
