The National Weather Service’s Jackson office has released new predictions for timing of when snow may arrive Monday evening and Tuesday morning across Mississippi.

An arctic air mass will move through the area plunging temperatures as it does along with a good chance snow may fall across portions of Mississippi.

Although exact predictions are difficult, forecasters believe the front should make it to the Mississippi Delta at approximately midnight on Monday and continue across the state, leaving whatever snow it drops likely as an early morning delivery.

The front should reach the Pine Belt area around Hattiesburg by daybreak on Tuesday, forecasters say.

If snow falls in a particular area, forecasters say it should only be snowing for no more than two to three hours.

Windchills Tuesday could be as low as the single digits in north Mississippi.

The Memphis office of the National Weather Service, which covers areas of northern Mississippi predicted accumulations of up to 1 inch in the most norther areas of the Mississippi Delta but predicted from 1 to 2 inches from a line starting in Clarksdale and running north and east to include Oxford, Tupelo and Corinth.
