After receiving a complaint from a resident, a Mississippi county has removed a sign declaring the county’s courthouse is a gun-free zone.

The Delta Democrat-Times reports Washington County made the change after the Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood issued an opinion saying the sign did not comply with state law.

Mississippi enacted a law in 2011 allowing people who take a training course to get an enhanced conceal carry license to carry guns almost anywhere on public property. The permit holders can carry guns into some parts of courthouses, such as the tax assessor’s office, but not into courtrooms.

Signs that were hanging at the Washington County Courthouse said concealed carry permit holders weren’t allowed to bring guns into the courthouse at all.

Carl McGee, the Washington County supervisors’ president, says someone filed a complaint about the sign.
