An Alabama man suspected of killing his estranged wife in Mississippi and abducting their young daughter is in custody, and the child is safe.

News outlets report that 27-year-old Joquincy Maurice McCord of Prichard surrendered to police in Mobile on Tuesday night.

Police in Pascagoula, Mississippi, say McCord’s estranged wife was fatally shot hours earlier. Authorities in Mississippi issued an amber alert after their 2-year-old daughter was discovered missing.

The girl was found unharmed and safe after McCord turned himself in.

Jail records show he is charged with murder and domestic violence in Jackson County, Mississippi. He’s being held without bond.

Court records aren’t available to show whether McCord has a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.
