Mississippi city may legalize deer hunting in city limits

It could soon be legal to hunt with a gun in parts of a northeast Mississippi city.
The Commercial Dispatch reports that Starkville aldermen may allow hunters to shoot guns on properties of a certain size.
The city wants to annex additional land. Some landowners opposed annexation because they use their land for hunting.
It’s currently illegal to fire a gun inside Starkville city limits.
Starkville officials say they’re only moving to comply with existing state law. It allows some weapons on any parcel 10 acres (4 hectares) or larger and more than 150 feet (45 meters) away from a building on another property.
Additional guns can be used on parcels 50 acres (20 hectares) or larger and more than 300 feet (90 meters) from a building on another property.
