A Mississippi man who was in a standoff with police has been wounded by gunfire.
Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey says the man, whom police haven’t named, emerged from the house with a weapon and officers fired at him.
Local news outlets report a man was refusing to come out of a house in Pelahatchie, east of Jackson, and fired shots when police arrived.
After more than two hours of the standoff, bystanders heard a rapid series of loud bangs.
The man was taken to a hospital. His condition is unclear.
Pelahatchie Police Chief Joseph Daughtry says the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation will investigate the officer-involved shooting. Daughtry says a weapon was recovered.
