Law enforcement agencies in two states were searching Saturday for an inmate who escaped from a county jail in Mississippi.

Billy Takoda Hinton, 22, escaped from the Greene County Jail early Saturday morning, the Greene County Herald newspaper reported. Hinton was in the county jail awaiting transportation to state prison to serve out a seven year sentence for burglary of a church.

Chief Deputy Brad Warrick told the newspaper Hinton somehow gained entrance into the attic above his cell and from there was able to move to an unsecured area of the jail and escape.
