A Mississippi man learned the hard way that a wrong number can land you in jail after he inadvertently texted a narcotics detective asking if he wanted some marijuana.

The narcotics investigator with the Picayune Police Department received the accidental text at 9:48 a.m. on March 6 offering the drugs.

Investigation into the number determined it belonged to 25-year-old Deronte Deshaun Magee.

Assistant Picayune Police Chief Dustin Moeller said the narcotics commander and patrol officers set up a time to meet with Magee at his home located at 121 Greenview Drive.

When officers arrived, they saw Magee standing outside. As the detectives and officers attempted to speak with Magee, he fled inside the home and locked the door, Moeller said.

Picayune police breached the door and took Magee into custody before obtaining a search warrant for the home.

In that search, the detectives and officers found several clear bags containing a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana along with a number of hand-rolled brown cigars containing a similar green leafy substance.

Moeller said Magee was taken into custody for conspiracy to transfer a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school or church.
