A woman is dead after a wreck involving a Mississippi police officer, who was injured.
WREG-TV reports it happened Monday night off of Interstate 55 in Sardis.
The Panola County Sheriff’s Office says 32-year-old Ericka Hughes, a mother of four, was turning into a fast-food restaurant when she was hit head-on by a Sardis police cruiser.
Witnesses say the officer was eastbound on Highway 315, swerving in and out of traffic when he crossed the center line and hit Hughes’ car, which was headed in the opposite direction.
Hughes’ sister, Brenda, says she was told the officer was in a high-speed chase involving a motorcycle.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol is handling the investigation and would not comment Tuesday on that probe or whether the police car had a dash cam.
