Jackson State University this week must show that it has fixed problems that led the state college board to intervene in the university’s finances in 2016.

The Clarion Ledger of Jackson reports a regional accrediting group is to visit April 16.

A letter from Higher Education Commissioner Alfred Rankins says there are concerns about the university’s progress in dealing with financial issues.

A report from accountants in January 2018 raised concerns about 28 deficiencies about the university’s ability to manage its financial operations.

The newspaper says the letter from Rankins to Jackson State President William Bynum said the school has corrected less than half of the issues auditors raised.

School spokeswoman Maxine Greenleaf says the school will meet the March 29 deadline to complete work on the auditor’s findings.
