Deputies investigate human remains found in wooded area
Mississippi sheriff’s deputies have found human remains after receiving an anonymous tip.
Forrest County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Phillip Hendricks says the remains were found Thursday in a wooded area in Hattiesburg.
The Hattiesburg American reports the remains were collected by the coroner’s office and taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Jackson for autopsy and possible identification.
It is unclear how long the remains had been in the area or whether foul play was suspected.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s department at 601-544-7800 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 601-582-7867.
