A central Mississippi woman has died days after being rescued from a flash flood.
Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart tells WLBT-TV that 44-year-old that Malisa Wortham died Tuesday at a local hospital.
That’s three days after the Jackson woman was pulled from her submerged vehicle by emergency workers.
Grisham-Stewart says Wortham was removed from an underpass near downtown Jackson that floods during stormy weather.
Wortham is the second person who died during Saturday’s severe weather across Mississippi.
In northeast Mississippi, 95-year-old Roy Ratliff died late Saturday when a tornado toppled a tree onto Ratliff’s home in the town of Hamilton.
A total of 19 tornadoes touched down in Mississippi on Saturday, as part of a storm system that also caused significant flash flooding across the state.
