Vicksburg police are looking for two people in connection with the reported Friday night shooting and wounding of another teen in the parking lot of JP&K Foods on Halls Ferry Road in Marcus Bottom.
The victim was shot in the chest and taken to Merit Health River Region, where he was in stable condition, Vicksburg Police Lt. Johnnie Edwards said. He said police were initially called about the shooting about 10 p.m.
Mayor George Flaggs said the store has been closed in the wake of the shooting.
Edwards said police are looking for Darion Turner, 18, 1314 South St., and Tony Dewayne Smoots Jr., 20, 502 Farmer St., for questioning in the shooting, which was the result of a fight between two teens. The victim got the better of his opponent, and the loser went to a car and fired shots as he drove off, Edwards said.
Anyone with information on the shooting should call Vicksburg Police at 601-636-2511, or Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers at at 601-355-TIPS (8477) or 1-866-481-8477.
Another shooting occurred near the convenience store January 21.
Milton Ray Jefferson, 61, 319 Hutson St., is accused of shooting his 31-year-old estranged wife after she refused to talk to him. The reported shooting occurred in the area of Coccaros Aly and Halls Ferry Road.
According to police reports, the woman was shopping in the store, when Jefferson apparently saw her and went inside to talk with her.
She refused to talk with him, and left the store with Jefferson following her. Somewhere between the store and Coccaros Aly, which is north of the store, he shot her.
Flaggs said the owner of the store is expected to meet with him and Police Chief Milton Moore Monday about 10 a.m. to discuss his security measures at the store.
“This is the same policy I’ve had with the other businesses where there have been problems,” Flaggs said.
