A Mississippi judge has set bond for a woman who was jailed for months after being charged with killing a man and stuffing his body in a freezer.

The Hattiesburg American reports 36-year-old Samantha Simmons of Purvis had been held without bond since June.

Relatives of 54-year-old Thomas Burns reported him missing May 21, 2018. The next day, they found his body in a freezer at his home.

Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel said Burns died of asphyxiation.

Simmons is charged with murder. Judge Anthony Mozingo on Tuesday set her bond at a total of $50,000 on the murder charge and two other charges.

Simmons’ attorney, Tom Fortner, says he requested bond because there was no evidence that Simmons is a flight risk or a threat to the community.
