A former north Mississippi teacher has been acquitted of charges of touching a child for lustful purpose.

WCBI-TV reports Calhoun County jurors found Loray Jordan Jr. not guilty on Thursday. He had been indicted on charges that he inappropriately touched an eighth grade girl in 2017 at a school in Bruce.

Jurors deliberated nearly three hours before reaching a verdict, after multiple days of testimony from the girl, other students and teachers.

Jordan’s supporters cheered when the verdict was announced, while the girl’s relatives questioned how jurors could discard testimony from multiple witnesses.

Former Bruce High School principal and former Calhoun County school district Superintendent Mike Moore were both charged with failing to report an alleged crime. They are still waiting on a court date to face those charges.
