A Warren County man remains hospitalized suffering from injuries sustained when he was shot at “very close range” in the face late Monday night.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said deputies responded to a disturbance call on the 200 block of Bell Bottom Road at around 10:15 p.m. Monday, where they found Jacob Barrett, 28, suffering from a gunshot wound to the face.

Pace said the victim was reportedly shot during an argument with two other males, when one of those individuals shot Barrett in the face with what Pace called “rat shot.”

Deputies arrested John C. Morgan, 51, for his involvement in the argument and shooting. He was charged with aggravated assault and was expected to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.

The weapon reportedly used was a .38-caliber revolver. Pace said the handgun was recovered at the scene.

Morgan was being held in the Warren County Jail without bond.

Barrett was transported to River Region Medical Center and then flown to University of Mississippi Medical Center. His condition was not known.
