Fred’s to close 104 more stores nationwide, 18 more in Mississippi

Discount retailer Fred’s announced plans Thursday to close another 104 underperforming stores across the nation including 18 more in Mississippi.
The announcement comes on the heels of last month’s announcement of 159 Fred’s locations across the country, 31 of those in Mississippi.
That brings the total Fred’s stores closing in the Magnolia State to 49.
Memphis-based Fred’s has said the closures are to “rationalize” the business’ footprint by closing underperforming store.
The company said it intends to close all 159 impacted stores by the end of May 2019. The newly announced closures of 104 additional stores are expected to be closed by the end of June 2019.
