A man died Thursday after falling from the top of a radio tower in Brookhaven, Mississippi.

Lincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris said Christopher Chase Hawkins, 34, of Caraway, Arkansas, was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 5 p.m. The tower is located at the end of Clarkwood Trail, which is a dead-end street.

McMorris said Hawkins and another worker from the Arkansas company were changing out lightning rods as part of maintenance on the tower.

They were at the top of the 280-foot tower when Hawkins appears to have slipped.

“They were here doing maintenance on it. He apparently unhooked for some reason and lost his balance,” McMorris said.

The Brookhaven Police Department is assisting the Occupational Safety and Health Association with the investigation.
