A second-term state lawmaker from south Mississippi is facing a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence.

The George County jail docket shows Republican state Rep. Doug McLeod of Lucedale was arrested during the weekend after deputies responded to a report of an incident late Saturday.

Jail warden Bobby Fairley tells The Associated Press that the docket shows McLeod was released by Monday. McLeod is free on a $1,000 “signature bond,” which meant McLeod was released without posting that amount of money.

Details about what led to the arrest weren’t immediately available, and the docket doesn’t show whether McLeod has an attorney.

The 58-year-old McLeod has been lawmaker since 2012 in a district in George and Stone counties. He’s unopposed for re-election this year.

He owns a tire company and is married.
