The Mississippi Department of Health gave its lowest ratings to 11 food establishments that were inspected last week two locations were found to have bugs or rodents present.

Bud’s Snack Bar in Tunica was cited for the presence of insects, rodents or other animals.

The Lakeland Chevron Hog Heaven BBQ in Flowood was cited for several violations including: the presence of insects, rodents or animals; not having food preparation surfaces properly sanitized; not keeping foods separated to avoid contamination; and improper temperatures for keeping hot foods hot.

Lee Hong Co. in Louise was cited for improper handwashing facilities and unclean food contact surfaces. Last week’s inspection was a follow-up to an April inspection in which the restaurant received a C rating for the very same violations.

Biloxi’s China Garden Express was cited for having a toxic substance in the kitchen that was not properly labeled. The inspector noted the problem was corrected immediately, but was a repeated problem.

The A-1 Grocery in Byhalia scored a C, not an A, for having improperly sanitized food prep surfaces, not having a certified manager on site, not having food separated properly to avoid contamination and improper sewage, wastewater removal disposal methods.

The Doubletree by Hilton’s Gulf Breeze Grill in Biloxi was cited for not having food separated to avoid contamination.

Other locations were cited for not having a certified manager on site and other violations.
