The Oxford Police officer who has been charged with murder is no longer employed by the department. The Oxford Board of Alderman terminated Matthew Kinne during an executive session following their regular meeting on Tuesday.

A spokesman with the OPD confirmed Kinne’s termination with the department on Thursday.

The four-year Oxford police officer was arrested on Monday in connected with the murder of Dominique Clayton, who found dead in her home on Sunday afternoon. Kinne was officially charged with murder and made his first appearance in circuit court on Wednesday. Kinne was reportedly romantically involved with Clayton

Interim OPD chief Jeff McCutchen released a statement following Wednesday’s hearing regarding the department’s stance.

“We are frustrated with today’s hearing regarding the issue of bond,” McCutchen’s statement read. “There is NO ‘reasonable’ bond, which can be set in this case. Matthew Kinne should not be released. He is a danger to our community and should not be released. We share in the frustrations of the community, stand with, and support the Clayton Family. This is about justice for Dominique Clayton.”

Judge Andrew Howorth postponed a bond hearing for Kinne to a date to be determined later, possibly as early as next week. Kinne remains in custody at the Panola County Jail.
