Filming for the movie “Breaking News in Yuba County” began Monday in Natchez and casting directors said they are in need of people to fill extra roles in scenes.

“I have a huge need for extras,” said Charlotte Gale of Caballero Casting LLC. “Over the course of the show, we have about 650 extras.”

“Breaking News in Yuba County” is directed by Tate Taylor and stars Academy Award-winning actress Allison Janney, Mila Kunis, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes.

Gale said the film is scheduled for shooting through mid-July and people interested in being extras should apply right away by emailing a photo of themselves (no hats or sunglasses) and contact information to yubacasting@caballerocasting.com.

“We also have a database people can register in,” Gale said. “It is at mycastingfile.com. All we need is their photo and their contact information — we have to know what they look like to know where we are going to put them. … If they register then they are always in our database in case we come back to Natchez.”

Once people are registered, Gale said, the company would call them to check their availability.

Typically, extras are required to commit at least one day, Gale said.

“If you are cast,” Gale said, “you are expected to do at least one eight-hour stint. We ask them to be completely available the entire day just because we don’t ever know what their call time is going to be until production wraps the day before.”

Pay for a featured extra role is $112 per day, Gale said, and pay for a regular background extra is $64 per day, with an eight-hour guarantee.

“We’ve been finding that they’ve only been using people for four or five hours, so they still get $64,” Gale said.
