After two days on the loose along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, an escaped baby kangaroo was recaptured late Thursday night with the end of his “vacation of a life” coming in the back of a Gulfport Police cruiser.

Jojo had “the mini vacation of his life” owner Cody Breland posted on social media. Breland operates Wild Acres Wildlife Photography & Mobile Petting Zoo in McHenry.

Jojo escaped Wednesday when hard rain spooked him while he and other animals were out of their pens and with children at a Coast Elementary School.

“I cannot express the gratitude of what it means to me and wild Acres to have had community support, national support and as of tonight international support all the way from Jojo’s land of origin, Australia,” Breland wrote. “I am over joyed and tonight as we head home I can’t help but know that our cup is running over by the gallon.”

The hunt for Jojo involved dozens of volunteers who endured rain and heat

Dozens of people searched through the rain and heat over the last few days looking for the kangaroo.
