One home was destroyed and another nearly so Monday evening in house fires on Sherwood Drive.
At around 6:40 p.m., Greg Strong heard a crackle in the carport of his 124 Sherwood Drive home. When he went outside to check, all he saw was fire.
All he could do then, was run across the street, call 911 and watch as his home was engulfed in flames.
Next door, the home at 122 Sherwood Drive was severely damaged as flames jumped onto the roof. Most of the home was destroyed as firefighters arrived and fought to keep other homes from becoming involved.
No one was harmed in either fire.
While the cause remains under investigation, Strong said the only thing he can think that might have caused the fire would have been his Chevrolet Impala, which he had just parked before coming in and beginning dinner.
Vicksburg Fire Chief Craig Danczyk said four fire companies with rescue, an ambulance and four chief officers responded to the call.
