Miss Mississippi pageant announces three preliminary winners

Two Miss Mississippi pageant veterans and a first–time contestant were winners Wednesday night during the first round of the 2019 Miss Mississippi preliminary competitions.

Miss Dixie Molly May, who is competing in her fifth Miss Mississippi Pageant, and Miss Northeast Mississippi Lexie Harper, who is competing for the first time, tied in the talent preliminary. Miss Riverbend Mary Margaret Hyer, who is competing for the third time, was the winner of the evening wear and social impact statement preliminary.

For her talent, May sang her version of “I am Here” from “The Color Purple,” while Harper performed a jazz dance routine to “Feeling Good.”

Hyer’s social impact statement is “Advocate, Celebrate, Donate: Decreasing the Donor Organ Deficit.” During the evening wear competition, Hyer wore a sapphire blue gown.

Preliminary competitions will continue through Friday at the Vicksburg Convention Center.

The finale will be Saturday, beginning at 8 p.m. During the finale, the top 10 contestants will be named, with those contestants recompeting in each of the areas, other than judges’ interviews.
