Man hospitalized after he was shot in face while driving on Mississippi highway

A Vicksburg man said someone shot him as he was traveling in his car on Mississippi 27 south of the Vicksburg city limits early Saturday morning.

Marlon Robinson was taken by ambulance to Merit Health River Region with a gunshot wound to the face. He was later transferred to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Information on his condition was unavailable.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said deputies received a call about 4 a.m. concerning a wreck on Mississippi 27 south of the city limits.

According to sheriff’s office reports, Robinson’s car was southbound on Mississippi 27 when it went off the right side of the road and hit standing water in a ditch. A witness to the wreck helped Robinson get out of the car and called 911.

When deputies and paramedics arrived, they saw Robison had been shot in the face. He told deputies someone in another car fired at his car.

Pace said authorities have a suspect in the case, but no one was in custody. He declined further comment, citing the ongoing investigation.
