A Mississippi jail inmate trusty committed suicide by shooting himself Tuesday with a deputy’s gun, local media reported.

The alleged suicide occurred in Marshall County. The inmate’s ID has not been released, but an attorney for the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office told media that the man hd been in custody for burglary and had been recently questioned by another law enforcement agency. The possibility of additional charges pending may have prompted him to take his life, sheriff’s office investigators said.

Apparently the trusty, who are given more freedom due to their perceived low security risk, somehow broke into a sheriff’s office vehicle, took the gun and shot himself in the doorway of the vehicle.
