A fugitive from the Mississippi Department of Corrections faces multiple charges after a Wednesday night car chase involving city and county authorities that ended behind a home on Front Royal Street off Fisher Ferry Road.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said James Earl Tremble, 29, no address given, is listed as an escapee from the state’s Hinds County Restitution Center since August 2017.

He is being held in the Warren County Jail without bail pending an initial appearance.

He faces county charges of felony eluding and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. A hold has been placed on him by the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

The incident began about 9:49 p.m. Wednesday when officers with the city’s NET team attempted to stop a brown Dodge pickup with a Rankin County tag as it was traveling on Clay Street.

The truck sped off, beginning the chase that went through downtown, eventually reaching Washington Street and then to U.S. 61 South and Jeff Davis Road.

The chase went back to the intersection of Fisher Ferry and Grange Hall Road, Pace said, where Tremble abandoned the car and fled on foot, leaving a woman passenger.

He said the woman was taken into custody, but has not been charged. She was later released.

The foot chase involving sheriff’s deputies and Vicksburg police K-9s continued through a heavily wooded area on the east side of Fisher Ferry Road, ending about 10:45 p.m., when a police K-9 found Tremble hiding under the back porch of a home on Front Royal.

“This arrest was the result of good coordination between the city and county,” Pace said. “This remains an ongoing investigation.”

He said anyone in Warren County who helped Tremble avoid capture during his escape could face criminal charges.
