A 12-year-old Mississippi girl was killed Friday in a boating accident in Alabama; two others in the boat were injured.

Authorities said the boat, a 19-foot deck boat, had nine people on board, all from Pontotoc County, Mississippi. In addition the girl who was killed a 14-year-old boy and another 12-year-old girl were also injured.

Details about what led to the accident are still under investigation.

The accident occurred on Smith Lake north of Birmingham near Cullman.

Alabama media report it was the second accident on Smith Lake in as many days.

On July 4 a two-boat accident occurred, injuring five people. One person was missing after that accident and authorities were still searching for the missing person.
