A north Mississippi fire chief was dubbed a hero by one of trio of people he helped rescue after their boat capsized in a lake.

Lafayette County Fire Department officials reported they were dispatched to the Hurricane Landing area of Sardis Lake Sunday morning after a boat on the lake was reported as capsizing.

The fire department reported in a facebook post that District Fire Chief Jamie Phillips “jumped in the water, picked the individuals up and placed them in the boat.”
