State prison inmate escapes custody; authorities seek information on his whereabouts, offer reward

State corrections and law enforcement personnel are searching for an escaped state inmate who fled custody while on a work detail in Perry County Tuesday.

Mississippi Department of Corrections personnel say inmate Corey Lee Alred was still wearing his green and white prisoner uniform when he was last seen off Mississippi Highway 42 near Richton in Perry County.

Alred, 39, assigned to the South Mississippi Correctional Institution (SMCI) in Greene County. He is serving a total of nine years for burglary larceny/of an unoccupied dwelling in Panola County, embezzlement in Tate County and residential burglary in Tallahatchie County.

Alred is a white male standing 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 145 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone who sees Alred is asked to call the MDOC at 662-745-6611 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355 8477. Anyone with information that leads to an arrest could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,500.
