Don’t let the cooler temperatures make you think the threat of tropical weather has passed. We remain deep in the heart of the 2019 hurricane season and forecasters say a 1-in-5 chance exists that a disturbance could form over the northern Gulf of Mexico in the next five days.

The National Hurricane Center shows no active storms in the Atlantic or Gulf area, but report they are keeping a close eye on some “disorganized cloudiness and showers” over the northwest area of the Gulf near the cold front that just passed through Mississippi brining cooler, drier air.

Along that frontal boundary, forecasters say conditions could support gradual development over the next 48 hours to five days as the disturbance meanders along in the Gulf.

Forecasters say a 20-percent chance exists that it could develop further.

So the message today is: Enjoy the cooler temps, but keep an eye on the weather because, well, this is the South and the weather can change quickly.
