A school board member and city employee has been convicted of voter intimidation in central Mississippi.

Local news outlets report a Madison County jury found Courtney Rainey guilty Wednesday on one count, but couldn’t reach a verdict on a voter fraud charge.

Rainey is a Canton school board member and has served as the city’s director of human and cultural needs. She was originally indicted on 16 charges related to conduct in Canton’s 2017 city elections.

She was taken into custody after jurors announced their verdict. She’s scheduled to be sentenced next Friday.

Rainey is also running for Madison County justice court judge as an independent.

At least seven others were indicted on related charges.

Canton Alderman Andrew Grant’s voter fraud trial is scheduled to begin Monday.
