Mississippi college town named one of top 10 football towns in America

A Mississippi college town was named one of the greatest college football towns in America this week by SI.com

The list, published Monday, features 10 college towns including one that’s near and dear to many Mississippi football fans — Oxford, Mississippi.

Oxford, home of the University of Mississippi came in No. 7 on SI.com’s list.

The authors wrote, “Oxford may be best known for the Grove, the site of some of the most epic tailgating in America, but the town itself extends beyond gamedays. … plus the city oozes with history.”

Not surprising to any SEC football fans, five of the top 10 cities were homes to SEC universities.

Other SEC teams making the list were:

College Station, Texas, home of the Texas A&M Aggies came in at No. 9.

Knoxville, Tennessee, home of the University of Tennessee cam in at No. 8, just behind Oxford.

Columbia, Missouri, home of the University of Missour was ranked No. 5.

Athens, Georgia, gained the No. 2 spot as the home of the University of Georgia.

So what college town was ranked at the top of the list?

Madison, Wisconsin, home of the University of Wisconsin.
