Nearly a month after his initial court appearance, the man charged with murdering an Ole Miss co-ed is scheduled to have a bond hearing next week.

Reports of a potential date being set for accused murderer Brandon Theesfeld came out Thursday morning, and attorney Tony Farese confirmed with The Oxford Eagle that a bond hearing is scheduled on the morning of Aug. 22 at the Lafayette County Courthouse.

Farese is serving as co-counsel, along with Steve Farese, for Theesfeld. Oxford attorney Swayze Alford is serving as Theesfeld’s lead counsel in the murder case.

Theesfeld has been held at the Lafayette County Detention Center without any form of bail since July 22, in connection with the death of fellow Ole Miss student Ally Kostial. Kostial’s body was found by a Lafayette County Sheriff’s deputy the morning of July 20 at the Buford Ridge area of Harmontown, near Sardis Lake.

Preliminary autopsy results showed Kostial, 21, died from multiple gunshot wounds.

On July 23, Theesfeld had his initial court appearance in front of Lafayette County Circuit Court Judge Andrew Howorth, who formally presented Theesfeld with the charge of murder. Since then, the case file has been sealed.

The bond hearing comes five days before Lafayette County’s final Grand Jury session of 2019 is scheduled to begin.

The Grand Jury will hear cases from Aug. 27 through 30, but it will not be known if Theesfeld’s case is presented to them until after proceedings have been completed. District Attorney Ben Creekmore has previously stated he will present the case to the Grand Jury, who will decide whether to indict Theesfeld or not.
