Highway patrol investigates crash that killed two people, including a juvenile

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of a single-car wreck that killed two Mississippians Friday night.

At approximately 11:23 p.m. a 2011 Nissan Altima was traveling eastbound on Highway 6 in Lafayette County when it left the road and collided with a culvert. The driver was identified as Whitnee A. Smith, 18 of Batesville, who sustained moderate injuries.

Two passengers were killed as a result of the wreck. One passenger was identified as Charles Redmond, 27 of Oxford, who succumbed to his injuries after being airlifted to a Memphis hospital. The other passenger was identified as a minor by the MHP and was pronounced dead at the scene.
