Police in Mississippi’s capital city say the driver of a sport utility vehicle has been shot to death in an apparent roadway altercation.

Jackson police say a vehicle ran off a major thoroughfare, Ridgewood Road, and crashed into a tree after someone opened fire from another vehicle about 12:30 a.m. Monday.

Police found a dead man inside the wrecked vehicle with a gunshot wound. A female passenger had minor injuries from the crash and was taken to a hospital.

Authorities haven’t released the name of either person.

Police are trying to determine who fired gunshots before the wreck.
