A Mississippi police officer who shot a man outside a nightclub in 2017 won’t be criminally charged.

The Commercial Dispatch reports that Lowndes County grand jurors declined to indict Officer Jared Booth in the shooting of 24-year-old Raymond Davis.

Booth shot and killed Davis outside a Columbus nightclub in November 2017. He’s been on administrative leave since.

Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton says he hasn’t been officially notified of the grand jury’s decision and can’t say when Booth might return to duty.

City officials have said they believe Booth acted properly in the shooting, which occurred during a fight over a gun in a parking lot. A woman in a nearby vehicle was hit in the leg by a stray bullet. Her lawsuit against Booth and the city was dismissed.
