A woman’s body found Saturday afternoon in Lincoln County has been sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab for autopsy.

Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said a passerby driving on Caseyville Road about 4:45 p.m. saw what appeared to be a body about 10 to 15 yards from the street and called authorities.

A woman’s body was found on the edge of the Homochitto National Forest just inside the Lincoln County line, he said. Rushing estimates it had been there for several days.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, crime lab officials and the county coroner’s office also responded to the scene.

The woman’s death is being treated as a homicide, he said.
