A Mississippi sheriff’s investigator has been killed in a crash.
Chickasaw County Sheriff James Meyers confirms 33-year-old Jeremy Voyles died from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle rollover that happened about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.
News outlets report Meyers says Voyles was on-duty and traveling with another law enforcement officer when the accident happened near Houlka. Meyers says the officers were not in a pursuit and the crash remains under investigation.
Voyles was airlifted to a hospital in Tupelo, where he was pronounced dead about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. Meyers says the other officer was taken to an area hospital for moderate injuries.
Voyles, the son of Houston Police Chief Billy Voyles, had worked for the sheriff’s office for about five years.
He is survived by a wife and two young children.
